As illustrated by the example of Pope John Paul II inspiring the Solidarity movement in the 1980s, when a movement has been building a long time, even against a massive and entrenched power, a charismatic leader’s words can play a vital role as a catalyst.

Why even strictly self-interested businesspeople should oppose the investor-state dispute settlement mechanism in many trade treaties, including the leaked draft of the Trans-Pacific Partnership.
